Howell’s Kirk wins high jump at festival
The indoor track-and-field season got off to a high-flying start as Howell’s Ian Kirk won the boys high jump at the Spiked Shoe Holiday Festival.
Kirk soared a personal best, 6 feet 6 inches, to win the competition that was held at the Armory Track & Field Center in New York City on Dec. 17.
Marlboro High School’s Brandon Mazzarella finished second in the boys 800-meter run (2:01.4).
In the girls 200-meter dash, Marlboro’s Kimberley McKinnon was second (26.8).
Major meets coming up in 2013 are the Monmouth County Relays on Jan. 9 at the Bennett Indoor Sports Complex in Toms River (site for all the NJSIAA meets); the NJSIAA Relay Championships from Jan. 10-13; the Colts Neck Invitational on Jan. 16 in Toms Rivers; the Monmouth County Championship on Jan. 18 at the Bennett Indoor Sports Complex; the Shore Conference Championships on Jan. 25, back at Bennett; the New Balance Games at the N.Y.C. Armory on Jan. 26; the Metropolitan Invitational back at the Armory on Jan. 30; the NJSIAA Sectional Championships from Feb. 4-10; the NJSIAA Group Championships from Feb. 15-16; and the Meet of Champions on Feb. 23. The Amory is hosting the Millrose Games on Feb. 16, the Eastern States Championships on Feb. 25 and the New Balance Indoor Nationals March 8-10.
During the winter, Howell High School is hosting the Rebel Indoor Shot Put Series on Jan. 4, Jan. 16 and Feb. 1.
