Relay for Life set for June 9-10

COLTS NECK — The Freehold and Colts Neck Relay for Life to benefit the American Cancer Society will begin on June 9 at noon and run until 6 a.m. June 10 at Buck’s Mill Park, Colts Neck.

Hundreds of people will come to walk, share stories, support one another and celebrate survivorship.

Relay for Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature fundraising event, which is a life-changing opportunity that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who battle cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against a disease that has taken so much from so many, according to Rosina Cascone of Freehold Township, who cochairs the event with Lauren Guariglia of Howell.

The family friendly event offers teams of people who camp out and take turns walking around a path or a track overnight the opportunity to prove that while cancer never sleeps, neither do they.

“Everyone’s reason to participate is as unique as their own personal story. At relay events you can find healing, comfort and support from others who have faced cancer or who have lost a loved one to the disease. With every step you take, you will be helping theAmerican Cancer Society save lives. With your help, we aren’t just fighting one type of cancer; we are fighting for every birthday threatened by every cancer in the community,” Cascone said.

Cascone and Guariglia have both lost family members to cancer and continue to work on the event that raises funds for education, research and patient services to those with cancer. Both women have been involved in the event for more than a decade.

“Relay is a place for survivors to go to celebrate with their families and it is also a place to go and remember the people who have been lost,” Guariglia said.
