Woman facing multiple charges
MANALAPAN — Multiple motor vehicle charges were lodged against a resident of Manalapan on the evening of Aug. 12. Police said that at about 10:30 p.m., several people reported that a vehicle on Shepard Way was being operated with a flat tire. The vehicle was reported to be smoking and emitting sparks.
Shepard Way is off Oakland Mills Road.
Responding officers Patrolman Edward Hedden and Patrolman Jason Vigneault determined that Alison Barrelli, 42, of Shepard Way, was the driver of the vehicle. According to a press release issued by police, Barrelli was found to be driving while intoxicated.
Police said that during the course of her interaction with the officers, Barrelli became loud, used profanity toward the officers and was disorderly during the investigation. She allegedly attempted to leave the scene while being asked to perform sobriety tests.
Police said Barrelli resisted arrest as the officers placed her in handcuffs. While being processed, she allegedly refused to provide breath samples for testing.
Barrelli was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, refusal to submit to a breath test, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, obstruction of the administration of the law and unsafe operation of a motor vehicle. She was released on her own recognizance.
The Manalapan Fire Company No. 1, Millhurst, responded to the scene and determined that the smoke and sparks that were seen by the witnesses were due to the vehicle traveling on a rim with no tire, according to the press release.
Barrelli was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the incident, police said.
