      Olympian Bhavsar teaches, motivates young gymnasts
           Whenever U.S. Olympics team gymnast Raj Bhavsar visits clubs like Classic Gymnastics in the Morganville section of Marlboro he knows that the future of his sport is in good hands. “This club is exceptional,” said Bhavsar, who won a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. “It has everything you need to advance.”

            Adult baseball players and teams are wanted for the Amateur Baseball Association of New Jersey. The league fielded more than 140 teams in the spring and summer in northern and central New Jersey. The ABA will have multiple wood and metal skill-level leagues. The leagues play mainly on Sunday, with some Saturday games. The fall season starts in September.

      Talamo, Patriots pace FRHSD boys lacrosse
           The Freehold Township High School boys lacrosse team played its way into the Shore Conference elite during the spring of 2010. While the Patriots stayed on top in the Shore Conference A North Division, it was their appearance in the Shore Conference Tournament semifinals — a program first — that proved the Patriots belong with the top programs in the conference.

           The Freehold Township High School girls lacrosse team seniors went out in style in the spring of 2010. The Patriots’ seniors completed a four-year sweep of the Shore Conference A North Division this spring, confirming that the Patriots have one of the finest lacrosse programs in the conference.

      Home runs carry Manalapan to Cal Ripken District 11 title
           Ahome run onslaught that even a confident manager like Peter Becker found a little surprising carried Manalapan to the Cal Ripken League District 11 Tournament 12-and-under championship. Cranking out 22 home runs in five games and scoring 15 runs per outing, Manalapan again beat its toughest opponent in the tournament, Matawan, in an 8-4 triumph on July 1.

      Marlboro South wins District 19 tournament
           The Marlboro South Little League’s 9- and 10-year-old all-stars certainly earned their District 19 pennant. The all-stars lost their first game in pool play, but still managed to go 3-1 and earn the top seed for the tournament’s playoff round.

      Jersey Shore Roller Girls’ home opener set for July 24
           The Jersey Shore Roller Girls All-Stars will face off against the Lancaster County, Pa., Dutchland Blitz roller derby team July 24. The JSRG All-Stars travel team is undefeated thus far, having beaten the Harrisburg Area Roller Derby and Long Island Roller Rebels on the road. The July 24 action is set for Asbury Park’s legendary Convention Hall.
