      Former Manalapan High School and Rutgers University basketball standout Ed Zucker will offer personal instruction this summer for any player interested in improving his or her basketball skills. Zucker can be reached at 732-221-5937 or via email at ezsports@verizon.net.

      The Rutgers University Alumni Qualifying Golf Tournament will be held on Aug. 28 at the Rutgers University Golf Course on the Busch Campus in Piscataway. Tee times begin at 11 a.m. with a scramble format.

      The best foursome will win entrance to the Acura College Alumni Team Championship to be held at the Pinehurst Golf Resort in Pinehurst, N.C., Nov. 5-7.

      Golfers do not need to be Rutgers alumni to participate. Registration includes a round of golf, golf cart, range balls, a hot lunch, giveaways and a chance to win a free car. For online registration, go to the website at www.rutgersalumnigolf.com. Registration received prior to July 30 will receive a $50 discount.

      Freehold’s Adam Garry broke the alltime Fairleigh Dickinson University- Florham record for career pitching appearances during the 2010 season. The senior was the Devils’ left-handed specialist coming out of the bullpen and he appeared in a record 56 games during his four-year career. He broke the record of 53 appearances set by Greg Warger in 2007.

      In 2010, Garry appeared in 12 games, pitching eight innings and striking out 10 batters. As a junior, Garry equaled the single season record for appearances, 20, first set by Warger. Garry’s 16 appearances as a sophomore are third best all-time for a single season.

      FDU-Florham went 33-11 this year.

      Garry is a graduate of Freehold High School, Freehold Borough.

      Garry’s former high school teammate, catcher Marc Hubbert, also had a big senior season with the Devils, batting .374 and slugging .604. He had 12 doubles, one triple and six home runs, and drove in 43 runs.

      Michael Caggiano, a seventh-grader in Manalapan, will be attending Football University’s Top Gun camp in Williamsburg, Va., from July 21-23. Caggiano was invited to Top Gun because of his outstanding performance as a kicker and quarterback at the FBU New Jersey and FBU Orlando, Fla., camps.

      The Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association of New Jersey will hold its annual mid-summer golf outing on July 12 at Gambler Ridge Golf Course, Cream Ridge. The cost for the event is $135 and includes greens fee, golf cart, buffet lunch, deluxe dinner and open bar, and drawings for prizes. Dinner-only tickets are $50.

      Special events include a putting competition and a hole-in-one contest, which features a 2010 Mercedes C300 courtesy of Prestige Mercedes-Benz of Paramus.

      The Ronald McDonald House (RMH) of Long Branch and New Brunswick is hosting its 17th annual golf tournament on July 12 at the Beacon Hill Country Club, Atlantic Highlands. In addition to Beacon Hill’s brand new 40,000-square-foot clubhouse, RMH golfers will be treated to lunch, open bar, hors d’oeuvres, dinner, silent auction, and an awards presentation. There is also a “Pot of Gold” hole, raffle prize, 50/50 … and golfers will have a shot at winning a million dollar hole. On event day, registration begins at 11 a.m. with a 1 p.m. shotgun start.

      The Ronald McDonald House provides a true “home away from home” for families of seriously ill children who receive care at medical facilities near its locations in Long Branch and New Brunswick.

      The New Jersey Section of the American Water Works Association will hold its second annual Run For Water to benefit Water For People on July 24 at Monmouth Battlefield State Park, Route 33, Manalapan. The event, which will start at 8:30 a.m. will feature a 5K race and a half-mile run/walk and toddler dash.       The Football Parents Touchdown Club for Manalapan High School is sponsoring its ninth annual golf outing to benefit the Manalapan High School football program on July 21 at the Mercer Oaks Golf Course in Princeton Junction. The cost per golfer is $125 and includes greens fee, cart, driving range, hot buffet lunch, beverages, hors d’oeuvres, dinner banquet, prizes and contests.       The Monmouth County Park System invites area residents to enjoy naturalist-led boat tours of the Manasquan Reservoir in Howell. Tours are offered on Saturdays, Sunday and holidays from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend (weather permitting).

      Tours of approximately 45 minutes depart hourly between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. from the Windeler Road, Howell, visitors’ center. This year, the park system also offers tours at 2 p.m. on Wednesdays.

      Each tour includes opportunities to view turtles, egrets, herons, osprey, and perhaps a bald eagle. The fee is $5.25 per adult and $3.25 per child under 12. Tickets are available in the lower level of the visitor center. Tours can be arranged for organized groups.

      The Manasquan Reservoir Environmental Center, Georgia Tavern Road, Howell, has summer hours from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday through Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Fridays through Labor Day Weekend. For more information, call 732-751-9453 (TTY/TDD number is 711).
