Division track titles go to Patriots, Rebels

     Freehold Township High School and Howell High School won championships at the Shore Conference Divisional Track and Field Championships which took place on Jan. 2-3 at the John Bennett Indoor Complex in Toms River. It was a repeat triumph for the Freehold Township boys, who won the Shore ConferenceANorth Division title comfortably over Christian Brothers Academy, 97-67.5.

Defense has Mustangs on the winning path

     Andrew Theokas had just enough time to size up his Marlboro High School boys basketball team this summer. Theokas was hired to be the Mustangs’ new head coach in August and it gave him time to catch the team in action during summer league play. “My first impression was that we had guys with offensive talent,” he recalled.

Patriots deliver first hockey championship

     If there was ever a tie that was satisfying to both teams it came on Jan. 9 at the Gold Coast Arena in Wall Township. A third period goal by John Talamo allowed Freehold Township High School to tie defending champion Howell, 3-3, and bring the Shore Conference C Division ice hockey title to the Patriots.

Sport Shorts
      Drive to the Hoop, a 3-on-3, all ages basketball tournament, will be held March 20 at Monmouth University, West Long Branch. Various age and skill divisions will be available. Each team will be guaranteed three refereed games, with winning teams moving on to the playoff rounds and finals.

Synchronized skaters succeed
     The Ice-Lantics Beginner 2 synchronized skating team returned from New England with back-to-back secondplace finishes at the Terry Conners Synchronized Skating Classic in Stamford, Ct., and days later at the Cape Cod Synchronized Skating Classic in Bourne, Mass. Both events drew teams from across the Middle Atlantic and New England states.
