      Ice hockey teams look to build on success
            CHRIS KELLY staff It took just one season for all of the Freehold Regional High School District ice hockey teams to spoil their fans. The sport made its varsity debut in the FRHSD in 2008-09 with unprecedented success, led by the Howell Rebels.

            The Freehold Regional High School District volleyball teams are still playing catch-up with Colts Neck. During the recently completed 2009 season the Cougars remained the area's premier squad as they won the Shore Conference A North Division crown for the fourth straight year.

      O'Dowd, FTHS trio top X-C all-star team
            The successful tradition of distance running in the Freehold Regional High School District is in good hands with Colts Neck High School's Mike O'Dowd. The Cougars' junior emerged as one of the state's best distance runners in 2009, winning the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group IV state sectional cross country championship.

      Roche, Hand pace All-FRHSD cross country
            Mackenzie Roche set an ambitious goal for herself this fall and the Freehold High School senior achieved it. Having never qualified for the NJSIAA Cross Country Meet of Champions in her previous three years, the Colonials' harrier set out to reach that state championship event.

      Colonials and Patriots pace field hockey stars
            The two Freehold teams shared the spotlight in Freehold Regional High School District field hockey this fall. Coach Jerrilynn Acevedo's Freehold High School Colonials won the Shore Conference B North Division crown and were the top seed in the NJSIAA North Jersey Section II, Group III state tournament.

      Brookdale cagers 7-0, nationally ranked
            The 2009-10 Brookdale Community College women's basketball team skipped the appetizers and went straight to the main course. With just one starter returning and eight freshmen on the team, head coaches Marianne Campacci and Joanne Cobb did what most coaches in their position would not have done.

      Sport Shorts
            Pinelanders Youth Soccer Club, Howell, is now accepting registration for the Spring 2010 recreational soccer season. Registration is open to boys and girls who will be between the ages of 4 and 18 on April 1, 2010 (proof of age required). Girls age 5-18 can choose all-girl or co-ed soccer. The fee is $45 per player, $90 max per family.
