      O'Dowd 19th in X-C Meet of Champions
      Roche represents FHS at season-ending meet
            Mike O'Dowd is not just a runner. He is a fighter as well. At the Nov. 21 NJSIAA Cross Country Meet of Champions the Colts Neck High School sophomore was not at his best, but he did not let that keep him from his goal of earning a spot on the podium.

            Jesse Shenker, a senior at Montclair State University, was named to the 2009 All-New Jersey Athletic Conference Football Team Second Team at strong safety. Montclair State won the NJAC title this fall. In the NCAA Division III playoffs. Montclair State beat Maine Maritime Academy, 38-22, in the first round, before bowing to top-ranked Mount Union, 62-14, on Nov.

            The St. Rose of Lima School girls soccer team was on a mission from Day One of the 2009 season. After falling short in their quest to win the Monmouth County Intermediate School Soccer League title the past two years, nothing short of winning the league title would suffice for the Lady Jaguars.

            All that separated the Howell High School football team from a third trip to an NJSIAA state sectional championship game in the last four years was 12 minutes of football.

      Gallo captures third Born to Run crown
      Avila is first overall in race on day after Thanksgiving
            Lindsey Gallo was back on familiar terrain for the Born to Run 5-Mile Run in Freehold Borough on Nov. 27. When she was starring at Howell High School and winning state titles, Gallo used to train on the roads near her Freehold Township home that are now used for the Born to Run course.

      Colonials, Braves win Thanksgiving games
            The Freehold High School and Manalapan High School football teams ended the 2009 season on a high note by winning their Thanksgiving Day rivalry games. For Coach Mark Ciccotelli's Freehold Colonials, their 32-7 win at home over Colts Neck on Nov. 26 gave them a winning record for the season and just their second win in the 10-game series against the Cougars.
