      Grid teams will renew Thanksgiving rivalries
            High school football will top the Thanksgiving Day menu for the Freehold Regional High School District schools this week. Because of a Shore Conference realignment scheduled to take effect next year, this year could be the final time around for the Howell vs. Freehold Township and Freehold vs. Colts Neck games.

      Born to Run race marks 25th year
            The streets of Freehold Borough will be filled with runners on Nov. 27, just as they have been for the past 25 years. The Freehold Area Running Club's Born To Run 5-mile race through the downtown area and surrounding neighborhoods will celebrate its 25th running on the day after Thanksgiving.

      Shenker finally gets playoff experience
      Freehold Township grad plays for NCAA-bound Montclair State University
            Jesse Shenker's time finally arrived. As the Montclair State University strong safety said, "I've waited 15 years for this. I've been playing football since I was 7 and I have never experienced the playoffs. I'm excited." Montclair State won the New Jersey Athletic Conference football championship on Nov. 14 when the Red Hawks defeated Kean University, 14-6.

      Ryan's 5 TD passes lead Rebels past Montgomery
            They made it look very easy. Scoring the first six times they had the football on drives of 80, 74, 64, 70, 35 and 69 yards, the Howell High School Rebels defeated the Montgomery Cougars, 41-18, on Nov. 16 in the first round of the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group IV state playoffs in Howell.

      Monmouth defeats UConn; wins first NCAA Tournament match in university history
            This was not your typical penalty kick. There is certainly pressure any time a soccer player takes a penalty kick, but when Ryan Clark prepared for his penalty kick on the afternoon of Nov. 19, Monmouth University's season and history were on the line.

      Sports Shorts
            Manalapan's Brian Grimm, a senior at Harvard University, was named to the All-Ivy League Soccer Team, Second Team. Grimm, a defensive midfielder, anchored a staunch defense that helped the Crimson win the Ivy League crown this fall. The Crimson registered eight shutouts en route to the Ivy League title. Grimm assisted on two game-winning goals.
