      Patriots claim CJ IV field hockey title
            While the team members were stretching in the Freehold Township High School gymnasium before a recent workout, Coach Beth English asked her field hockey players to look around and tell her what was missing. The girls did not know what to make of English's question. They looked around to see if any players were missing and could not come up with an answer.

      'Unlucky' Braves fall to Jaguars in CJ final
            Soccer can be a cruel sport, just ask the Manalapan High School Braves. The Braves created one scoring chance after another in their Nov. 12 Central Jersey Group IV state sectional tournament final at Jackson Memorial High School, but it was the host Jaguars who left the field as sectional champions following their 1-0 triumph on a rainy afternoon.

            Jenn Paulucci is having another outstanding season with the Johns Hopkins University soccer team. The junior who is a graduate of Freehold High School was named to the College Sports Information Directors of American ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District 2 First Team. A biomedical engineering major, Paulucci has a 3.96 grade point average.

      O'Dowd, Roche qualify for Meet of Champions
            The 2009 NJSIAA Meet of Champions, the goal of every cross country runner in New Jersey, will include the Freehold Regional High School District's two best harriers. Colts Neck High School's Mike O'Dowd and Freehold High School's Mackenzie Roche overcame strong fields and sloppy conditions at Holmdel Park, Holmdel, on Nov. 14 to advance to the Nov. 21 Meet of Champions.

      Princeton tops Freehold in sectional soccer final
      But Colonials rejuvenated boys soccer with sparkling 18-4 campaign in 2009
            Aseason that began with modest expectations turned into the best boys soccer campaign in 10 years at Freehold High School. The 2009 season came to an end on Nov.13 at Princeton High School where the No. 2 seed Colonials lost to No. 1 seed Princeton, 2-0, in the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group III state sectional tournament championship match.

      Colts Neck football team was hit with injuries during 2009 season
            You can find out more about a team in adversity than you can in the good times. The Colts Neck High School football team was poised to do good things in 2009 with three-year starting quarterback Chris Chiarelli running the show. Having a quarterback with that much experience is a luxury that most high school football teams do not have.

      Colonials fall in OT in sectional final
            Missed opportunities. That is what will haunt the Freehold High School field hockey team when the players look back on a great 2009 season. The Colonials were 18-3-2, but it is the three one-goal losses the players will lament. Those were games in which the offense disappeared.

Marino, flanked by (l-r) coaches Brittany Scott, Kim D'Ambrosia and Nikki Hastings, will attend Monmouth University in West Long Branch and play lacrosse. Cardamone, with coaches John Sciarappa and John Sciarappa Jr. behind her, will attend Bryant University in Rhode Island and play basketball.

      Wall edges Freehold in state tourney
            In the Central Jersey Group III state sectional tournament, Freehold High School saw its three-year reign as sectional champions end in Wall Township as the Crimson Knights came away with a 1-0 victory. As was anticipated, this state sectional tournament semifinal match was decided by penalty kicks.
