      Coutts, 'Mr. Downtown,' remembered with love
      Real estate professional gave time, effort, advice to many Freehold groups
            FREEHOLD — The borough lost one if its most precious resources last week — Robert Lloyd Coutts Jr. Coutts, 87, was one of the founding members of Freehold Beautiful Inc. and a part of just about everything that took place in Freehold Borough's downtown for more than 30 years.

            Mr. Frederick, 63, formerly of Freehold, died Oct. 18, 2009, at his home in Virginia Beach, Va., after a 15-year struggle with the effects of cancer and chemotherapy. He was a Vietnam veteran and a graduate of Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Va. He earned his master's degree in psychology from Norfolk State University. Mr.

      Frank "Soup" Dinkel
            Mr. Dinkel, 82, of Freehold Township, and formerly Manalapan, died Nov. 1, 2009, at home. He was a union member with Construction Laborers Local No. 472, Newark, for 40 years, retiring in 1989. He was predeceased by a daughter, Debbie; four brothers, Herbert, Earl, Kenneth and John; and three sisters, Irene, Agnes and Ruth.

            Mrs. May, 66, of Freehold Township, died Oct. 26, 2009, at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. She was a teacher for 30 years at Eisenhower School in Freehold Township, retiring in 2000. Mrs. May was a member of the NJEA and Freehold Township Education Association.

            Mr. Schear, 47, a lifelong resident of Howell, died Oct. 27, 2009, at Jersey Shore University Hospital, Neptune. He was a LAN administrator at SS&C Technologies NJ, Skillman, for more than 20 years. He is survived by his wife, Cathy; three sons, Daniel G. Hansen of Bloomingburg, N.Y., and Robert F. Schear III and Andrew F.

            Mrs. King, 89, of Freehold Township, died Oct. 28, 2009. She had a career as a dog breeder. She also volunteered for the MCOSS Nursing Services for more than 35 years, was an organizer of the Frogtown Frolic, and an assistant at health clinics for migrant workers. She was predeceased by her husband, Daniel L. King; a brother, Joseph R. DuBois Jr.

      Charles H. F. Morris Jr.
            Mr. Morris, 94, of Freehold, died Oct.28, 2009, at Applewood Estates, Freehold. He was a resident of Allentown for 41 years before moving to Applewood 17 years ago. In 1984, Charles retired from RCA, Princeton, where he was employed for 50 years. He was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Grace Jean Morris; and a brother, Frank Morris.

      Hugh Oakley
            Mr. Oakley, 82, of Salisbury, Del., formerly of Freehold, died Oct. 30, 2009, at home. He began his career with the New Jersey Department of Agriculture and later went to work as a fruit broker for Blue Goose Growers in Hagerstown, Md. Mr. Oakley served on the Freehold Township Board of Education in for 20 years, 16 of those as president.

            Mr. Potenza, 67, of Freehold, died Oct. 27, 2009, at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Prior to his retirement, he was an engineer for Lucent Technologies, Freehold.
