Hayes has rushed for 316 yards and two touchdowns while averaging 4.1 yards per carry for the Blue Hens. He has caught 10 passes for 81 yards through six games. Hayes, a Howell High School graduate, made the Blue Hens squad as a walkon. More ... The Braves earned their first win of the 2009 season by defeating Brick Memorial High School, 33-21, on Oct. 16 in Manalapan. More ... The first time representatives of Longwood University came calling, Mat Yuhas admits that he was not ready. "I wasn't ready to be six-and-a-half hours away" from home," he said. "I knew I would go to Brookdale for a year." The baseball coaches from Longwood, which is in Farmville, Va. More ... The Freehold Township High School boys cross country team's season keeps getting better. Coach Brian Golub's Patriots had already carted away championships at the Cougar Invitational (Large Schools Division) in Colts Neck and the Freehold Regional High School District Championship, and now they have a third title to add to the trophy case. More ... Nicole Pandozzi never doubted her team's potential. While the Colts Neck High School gymnastics team struggled at the start of the 2009 season, losing four of its first five meets, Pandozzi, the coach of the Cougars, remained confident that her team could turn the season around. More ... With postseason action starting this week, the Manalapan High School girls soccer team (8-3-1) will be a dangerous opponent.
