Freehold Borough schools welcome students back

      FREEHOLD — Children in kindergarten through eighth grade returned to school in Freehold Borough on Sept. 1 to begin the 2009-10 school year. The borough's preschool program for 4- year-olds began on Sept. 8. Superintendent of Schools Elizabeth O'Connell said she is excited about the new school year and is looking forward to working with the district's new teachers.

School board member resigns
      FREEHOLD —Andrew DeFonzo has resigned from his seat on the Freehold Borough K-8 School District Board of Education. The board accepted his resignation on Aug. 31. DeFonzo has also dropped off the Republican ticket in the Nov. 3 election for a seat on the Borough Council.
