      The Freehold Township Little League will be the center of attention in the local Little League baseball world beginning on Aug. 8. For the fifth consecutive year, the league is hosting the Little League Junior League (ages 13-14) Eastern Regional Tournament.

Trip mixed basketball, culture for Cardamone

      Stephanie Cardamone had a good reason to miss her final exams in June. She was receiving an education on and off the basketball court in Argentina. Cardamone, who will be a senior at Freehold Township High School, was a member of the USA Athletes International (USAAI) team that played in Argentina in late June.

Junior Golf America thriving in 10th year

      Junior Golf America (JGA) is celebrating its 10th season in 2009. With 30 tournaments and more than 400 golfers between the ages of 8 and 18 participating in its events this year, JGA has grown beyond anything that Chuck and Ginna DiLeo of Manalapan envisioned when they held their first tournaments in 2000.

Manalapan squad heads for regional tournament

      The most decorated team in Manalapan Cal Ripken baseball history will be looking to add an Eastern Regional championship to its trophy collection this week. The Manalapan Cal Ripken 12-and-under all-stars won their second consecutive Northern New Jersey Major League state title by defeating host Bridgewater, 7-0, in the final.

Manalapan 14U wins Babe Ruth state title

      After winning a district crown and the Northern New Jersey state title, the Manalapan 14U Babe Ruth baseball all-stars will try to add a Mid-Atlantic Region title to their collection of summer championships. Manalapan is scheduled to play the Adirondack A's (New York State) in its first round game on Aug. 7 in Bridgewater, Somerset County.

Sports Shorts
      Howell hockey, a recreational roller hockey program for boys and girls from Howell and surrounding towns, will hold in-person registration from 7-8:30 p.m. Aug. 6 and Aug. 12 and from 9-11 a.m. Aug. 15. All games are played outside on full-size rinks at Deerwood Park, Howell. Registration fees include a personalized jersey and 10 games, followed by playoffs.
