      Postal service plans review of Freehold facility
            The postal district (covering Freehold Borough) reached a decision to delay the removal of the trailer (that serves as a postal facility on Lafayette Street in Freehold Borough). The district manager wanted to inform Congressman Chris Smith and other officials of that decision before communicating it publicly.

      Drinking has devastating effects and many costs to society
            My heart goes out to Chris LaPatin and to the family of Theresa Kling. The letter ("Decision To Drink and Drive Can Lead to Tragedy," News Transcript, July 29) is written from the heart. I, however, would take it one step further. The expression "Drunk Drivers Kill" needs to be reduced to its lowest common denominator, "Drunks Kill.

      Citizens responsible for watching how government works
            As multiple elected and appointed officials appeared on television, stepping out of a bus in handcuffs, I was ashamed and outraged. At the same time, I also was reminded how important it is for the public to participate in government.

      Sheriff kept her word about starting a 287(g) program
            Iapplaud Monmouth County Sheriff Kim Guadagno for obtaining approval to implement federal program 287(g) of the Immigration Reform Act of 1996. This program will enable trained officers to check the immigration status of individuals incarcerated in our county jail system in order to identify illegal aliens.

      Government-run health option will not serve the nation
            As a health insurance broker and a member of the New Jersey Association of Health Underwriters, I disagree strongly with the federal government's plans for a new government-run health option. The new plan would compete directly with private insurance companies and ultimately reduce the choice of doctors and services available to patients.
