Political committee seeks new members
      Covered Bridge 1 is in the final stage of forming the Covered Bridge Political Action Committee. To date 200 Covered Bridge residents have joined this organization. According to a press release, organizers are hoping to recruit a minimum of 500 members. These 500 or more will reach out to another 500 or more in Covered Bridge.

      Jersey Shore Public Relations and AdvertisingAssociation (JSPRAA) has announced a cover design competition and scholarship for students attending vocational school, high school, or college. The winning entry will be published on the cover of the 35th Annual JASPERAwards programinOctober.

Optimists welcome public to golf outing
      The Sunrise Optimist Club of Freehold is seeking the public's assistance in supporting it's annual golf outing. The outing is the club's primary fundraising event for Camp Quality, an annual one-week, fun-filled, experience for children with cancer. The outing will be held Aug. 10 at the Knob Hill Country Club in Manalapan.

Drive for new books will aid pediatric unit
      Borders in Freehold Raceway Mall, Freehold Township, is hosting a book drive now through Sept. 7 to benefit local children. The store will collect new children's books purchased by customers and provide them to the Pediatric and Family Services Unit at CentraState Medical Center.

'Taming of the Shrew' coming to library
      "The Taming of the Shrew" by William Shakespeare will be presented by the Next Stage Ensemble of the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey at the Monmouth County Library Headquarters, 125 Symmes Drive, Aug. 5 at 7 p.m.

      MANALAPAN — The 58 photos that were submitted for the 2009 Manalapan Photo Contest are now on display in the courtroom of Manalapan's municipal building at Route 522 and Taylors Mills Road. The photos can be viewed Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
