Run for Water 5K will benefit Water for People
      Rain or shine, the 5K race at Monmouth Battlefield State Park on Route 33, Manalapan, will take place July 25. Although race director Michael Johnson would prefer to have ideal conditions for a race, a little rain would be appropriate.

Martial arts students compete in Lakewood
      More than 500 martial arts students from Monmouth and Ocean counties competed in the 10th annual Black Cat Karate Championships held at Lakewood High School on May 30. The competitors, whose ages ranged from 4 to 55, came from martial arts schools belonging to the United States Black Cat Kenpo Karate Federation (Grandmaster Art Beins, president).

Colts Neck captures District 19 crown

      Little League baseball changes when players reach the age of 13. They move to a regulation size field where the pitcher's mound is 60 feet from home plate, not 40, and the bases are 90 feet, not 60 feet, apart. As Kevin Clark, the manager of the Colts Neck Little League 13-year-old allstar team pointed out, games can go from pitcher's duels to high-scoring affairs.
