Corey Carrick, 17, of Howell, will be headed to Ardmore, Okla., for the 41st Trusted Choice Big "I" National Golf Championship from July 25-30. On July 6, junior golfers from around the state came together for 36 holes at Olde York Country Club in Chesterfield to compete in the state Trusted Choice Big "I" Championship qualifier. More ... The team from Marlboro South gave everyone in the recent District 19 Little League Baseball Tournament (8-9 age group) a lesson in what it takes to win. The Marlboro South all-stars marched through the District 19 tournament undefeated (4-0) and beat Lincroft Alpha, 11-6, in the championship game played at the Tinton Falls Little League Complex on June 30. Sky Blue FC Soccer has designated July 19 as a special Faith Day, featuring a game against the Chicago Red Stars, a free concert by the New Jersey rock band Justpassingthru, and guest speakers. The festivities will begin at 4:30 p.m. at Yurcak Field, Rutgers University, Piscataway. Tickets are $14 each, a savings of $5 per person. More ... The athletic facilities at Brookdale Community College, Monmouth County's community college, are undergoing a face-lift. In addition to upgrading the Robert J. Collins Arena on the Lincroft campus, Brookdale is expanding the arena complex to include a community-based fitness center and a 1,500-seat gymnasium. More ... The best graduating high school football players from the Shore Conference are not the only focus of the July 17 All-Shore Gridiron Classic. The all-star football game pits a team of 2009 Monmouth County high school graduates against a team of 2009 Ocean County high school graduates. More ... With stiff wind and sea conditions, Capt. Birch aboard Fish Guts Charters, Seaside Park, felt the ocean was not an option. Capt. Birch was prepared to take a local charter, Tom and his son, Ryan, fishing.
