      Unachukwu tops girls track team
            Ada Unachukwu highlighted a recordsetting 2009 girls track and field season in the Freehold Regional High School District. The Marlboro High School multi-event standout was once again the dominant individual in the district. This spring she extended her dominance to include a state title by capturing gold in the triple jump at the NJSIAA Group IV championships.

      Auto racing returns to Wall
            Wall Stadium promoter Jim Morton has announced that the "$5 Family Fun Night" will return to the one-third mile paved oval on July 11 at 7 p.m. Morton said all adults and all teenagers from age 13 and up will be admitted to the grandstands for $5. Children age 12 and under will be admitted free of charge.

      Andrews and Patriots write winning stories
            Robby Andrews was the top story of the 2009 outdoor track and field season in the Freehold Regional High School District. The Manalapan High School senior's curtain call was his victory in the 800 meters at the Nike Outdoor Nationals held in Greensboro, N.C. That victory in his final scholastic race gave Andrews bookend national titles in the 2008-09 school year.

      Kuras retires after 41 years as Marlboro's X-C coach
            John Kuras never anticipated coaching the Marlboro High School boys cross country team for 41 years. It just turned out that way. "I never gave it (longevity) a lot of thought," he said this week. "Every year there was a reason to come back and it turned into 41 years.

      Sport Shorts
            Military scholarships for a free week of baseball camp or softball camp are available to any child who has a family member currently serving in the military. Two scholarships are available for each weekly session: July 13-17, July 27-31, Aug. 10-14 and Aug. 24-28. The camps will be held at 3-2 Count Athletic Training Facility, 323A Fairfield Road, Howell.
