      School board reduces size of tax increase
            COLTS NECK — Members of the Colts Neck Board of Education have approved a $350,000 decrease to the Colts Neck School District tax levy for the 2009-10 school year. Township Committee members and school officials trimmed the tax levy after its defeat in the April 21 school election. Voters defeated the board's proposed $19.

      School board finalizes budget for coming year
      Howell K-8 tax rate to rise 2 cents instead of 3 cents per $100 of valuation
            HOWELL — After a two-week delay, the Board of Education unanimously approved the Township Council's $1 million budget cut recommendations at its June 3 meeting. Initially, the board stalled the application of the recommended budget cuts due to the council's decision to amend the school tax levy resolution only three hours before a May 19 deadline.
