      Howell Scouts food drive begins June 6
            Boy Scout Troop 258 of Howell is conducting a food drive to help replenish food and goods needed at The Howell Emergency Food Pantry as part of its community service project. The Scouts will drop off bags in their neighborhoods beginning June 6 and return between 10 a.m. and noon June 13 to collect the bags. Donations should be left outside at the front door.

      ARU to offer free art classes through June
            Arc Resources Unlimited (ARU), part of the Arc of Monmouth's employment services department, is offering free art instruction for visual artists 18 years and over with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Classes will be held every Wednesday at the Freehold Raceway Mall until June 24.

      Church will host trip to BlueClaws game
            Bethel AME Church, Freehold, will host a trip to see the Lakewood BlueClaws play at FirstEnergy Park, Lakewood, on June 15.       Local quilter will be honored at expo
            Linda J. Hahn of Manalapan will be honored as the 2009 all-star at the New Jersey Quilt Convention June 11-13 at the Raritan Expo Center in Edison. She will be recognized with a special exhibit featuring her favorite quilts from the past 15 years.

      Volunteers sought for Manalapan Day booth
            The Alliance for Prevention of Drug and Alcohol Abuse is seeking volunteers to provide face painting and also to wear a mascot costume at Manalapan Day June 13. The alliance will have a booth set up with information on drug and alcohol abuse. Students who volunteer will be provided with community service and volunteer hours. Adult volunteers are also welcome.

      Colts Neck Reformed Church seeks used bicycles
            The Colts Neck Reformed Church will host a used bicycle collection June 20 to benefit Pedals for Progress. Pedals for Progress is an organization that ships bikes overseas to help those who need them to travel to work, healthcare, school, and even to obtain food and water. Volunteers and representatives from Pedals for Progress will be on hand from 9 a.m.

            The Muscular Dystrophy Association of Monmouth and Ocean Counties will conduct its second annual Visions of Hope event, from 7 to 11 p.m. June 8 at the Addison Park catering hall in Keyport. The event will include food, wine tastings, art, fashion and networking.
