            Freehold Township High School's tidy 14-2 lacrosse victory over Howell High School on April 23 was the perfect example of what teams are up against when they face the Patriots — a balanced attack.

            Anthony DeSclafani has gotten his college baseball career at the University of Florida off to a great start. The righthander is 4-1 on the mound for the Gators with a 3.12 ERA. The Colts Neck High School graduate has appeared in 12 games, five of them as a starter. He has struck out 29 batters in 34.2 innings of work.

      Howell will host FRHSD track meet
            The 2009 Freehold Regional High School District Track and Field Championships will have several interesting subplots. Howell High School will host the FRHSD meet at 4 p.m. April 30. One subplot is the final go-round for one of the area's greatest track and field performers, Marlboro High School's Ada Unachukwu.

      Brookdale baseball Rugby is a perfect ranked No. 5 in U.S. outlet for Blutstein
            The Brookdale Community College baseball team will be watching the Weather Channel. When the Jersey Blues host the Region XIX Baseball Tournament in Middletown on May 8-10, the weather could be a factor — not that it always isn't, but because they are the host team and the responsibility for the maintenance of the playing fields falls on their shoulders.

      Mustangs rally to score key win over Colts Neck
            With an epic three-game victory over Colts Neck locked up, the Marlboro High School boys volleyball team scored the signature win that can make a team's season. In evaluating her team's prospects for the 2009 season, Coach Margie McNamara saw potential, but she also knew her team was young and inexperienced.

      Mustangs win Relay Carnival title
            The Hudson County Track Coaches Association Relay Carnival belongs to the Marlboro High School girls. The Mustangs won their third consecutive championship on April 18 at Secaucus High School. Marlboro topped Middletown South High School, 86-76, to claim the title.

            While traveling to the Penn Relays at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia last week, Manalapan High School senior Robby Andrews watched cars being passed. It brought a thought to his mind. "That will be me later," he recalled thinking.
