      While taking nothing for granted, the Freehold Township High School girls lacrosse team wants to make its mark beyond the Shore Conference A North Division this spring. The Patriots separated themselves from the division in 2008 by marching through the schedule undefeated.

      Manalapan's Pete Delleani went 2-3 with three runs scored, one RBI and two stolen bases in Rowan University's 7-5 win over Salem State College (Mass.) at the Russ Matt Tournament in Orlando, Fla. Delleani, who plays second base and shortstop for the Profs, is batting .362. He has scored 12 runs and driven in seven for Rowan, which has started the season 13-8-1.

Patriots' Reed hurls year's 1st no-hitter

      Dan Reed helped to open the 2009 high school baseball season by tossing the area's first no-hitter of the campaign. The Freehold Township High School junior authored his gem on April 2 in the Patriots' home opener against Monmouth Regional High School.

Howell counting on junior class

      The 2009 Howell High School baseball team will be looking to duplicate last year's run to the state tournament. It won't be easy for the Rebels, who finished 12-12 last spring. Coach Bill Gallacher will rely on a strong junior class to get back to the state tournament and Howell will try to overcome the graduation of Brian Battaglia and pitcher Mike Fiorillo.
