      Earth Day puppet show slated at library
            Earth Day with "Magic Pots & Recycled Bottles," a puppet show presented by Kathleen Jacobs, will be presented from 2 to 2:45 p.m. April 16 at the Monmouth County Library Headquarters Library, 125 Symmes Drive, Manalapan. Puppets made from familiar household items will be featured in three comical folktales from around the world.

            First Presbyterian Church of Freehold, 118 West Main St, Freehold, is accepting registration for Vacation Bible School, Camp EDGE. The program, which is open to ages 3 through adult, will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. July 27-31 at the church.

      Shared services group gets boost from Gov.
            MARLBORO — Representatives of 22 Monmouth County municipalities came together for the first official meeting of the Central Jersey Council of Governments (CJCG) on April 7. Gov. Jon Corzine was present as the local officials signed the council's ceremonial charter at Marlboro Town Hall. The organization is dedicated to seeking shared services across Monmouth County.

      Restaurant tasting supports foundation
            MARLBORO — Taste buds will be tantalized during the Marlboro Educational Foundation's fourth annual restaurant tasting to be held on May 4. The fun-filled and food-filled event be held at the Excelsior, Route 9 south, Manalapan, from 6-10 p.m. Tickets purchased in advance are $50 for adults and $25 for children under 16.

      Hydrant flushing continues in Freehold Twp.
            FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP — The Freehold Township Water Department is currently in the process of flushing fire hydrants in the township. The flushing will be ongoing Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. through May 29.

      Jewish singles invited to wine tasting event
            A wine tasting event for Jewish singles ages 24-35 and 35-55 will be held at 7:30 p.m. May 7 at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Monmouth County, 100 Grant Ave., Deal. The event is sponsored by the Jewish Community Center of Western Monmouth County along with the Jewish Community Center of Greater Monmouth County.

            Freehold Soil Conservation District is providing grants to high schools in Middlesex and Monmouth County that participate in the New Jersey Envirothon; a dynamic natural resources problem-solving competition for high school students.

      Dinner-dance set for mothers & sons
            Howell Recreation will present a Mother and Son Doo-Wop Dinner and Dance 6-9 p.m. April 17 and 24 at Our House Restaurant, Howell. The cost is $31 per person, and reservations are accepted only with payment. Reservations are on a first-come, firstserved basis.
