Colts Neck falls, 56-44, to Lancers at Izod Center

      Colts Neck High School's girls basketball players discovered a lot about themselves during their historic 2008-09 season and all of what the Cougars learned was good. It was a season that took the Cougars (29-4) all the way to the NJSIAA Tournament of Champions final at the Izod Center in East Rutherford on March 23.

Rebels, Patriots head all-star bowling teams
      The wealth of talent on the bowling alleys this winter was divided between Freehold Township and Howell high schools. Freehold Township's boys outlasted Howell in a season-long duel between the two schools for the Shore Conference B Central Division title. It was the Patriots' first division title.

Boys hoop stars shine on All-FRHSD squad
      It was quite a year for the boys basketball teams in the Freehold Regional High School District. Four of the six teams qualified for the NJSIAA state tournament and one team, Freehold Township, advanced to a sectional final. Coach Ben DiBiase's Freehold High School Colonials (23-5) were the area's best team throughout the season.

Dennis, Jackucewicz win St. Paddy's 10-Mile Run
      Rob Dennis continued his mastery of area road racing on March 22 when he won the Nestle Beverage Co. St. Paddy's 10-Mile Run. Dennis, a former Red Bank Regional High School state champion runner who went on to excel at the College of William and Mary, covered the 10-mile course that started and finished in Michael Tighe Park, Freehold Township, in 54:56.

      The seventh annual Rebel Relays at Howell High School will help get the 2009 high school outdoor track and field season off to a flying start. With deadlines quickly approaching for individuals and teams to achieve Penn Relays qualifying times, the Rebel Relays will take on added importance.

BlueClaws slate open practice
      The Lakewood BlueClaws have announced that they will hold their annual open practice on April 7 at 6 p.m. at FirstEnergy Park, Cedar Bridge and New Hampshire avenues, Lakewood. The event, which is free to the public, is the first and only opportunity to see the 2009 BlueClaws players before the season begins April 9.
