Judge supt. on pupil performance & finances The reality of the investigation by the state Board of Education is that (Freehold Regional High School District Superintendent of Schools) James Wasser did nothing illegal and is not subject to any sanctions. He has gotten the benefit of his degree search and is running possibly the most effective high school district in our state. I have served as a board of education member for many years and watched as the FRHSD has evolved into one of the most efficient and effective places for our children to experience learning opportunities second to none. This includes programs for every sector of our student population, from the most talented to the most challenged. All children are treated with the learning opportunities equivalent with their abilities and/or special needs. This thrust has provided nearly 40 percent of our students with special programs that could not be duplicated in other high school settings. The specialized learning centers, academies and specialneeds programs are student-focused and developed to promote success in high school and beyond. Our graduates routinely garner millions of dollars in grants, loans and scholarships to aid them in furthering their education. Our school district does this with a student cost ratio second to none in our county and one of the lowest in the state of New Jersey. The quest for blood is, in my estimation, ill spent and doing a disservice to a school district that is doing its best to provide students with programs that are built for their success. The accomplishments of our students academically is the most effective measurement of our district and the teachers, administrators and other employees of our fine district.
The angst associated with the hunt for Mr. Wasser's head is a mistake. The issue has been vetted for well over a year now and has become a complication that should end now. Mr. Wasser is not leaving; get over it. Tie him to the bedpost of performance in the classroom and the finances of the district. That is a positive quest. Our children deserve no less from us. |
