John Sciarappa could not say that about his Freehold Township High School girls basketball team early in the season, even though the Patriots were winning.       Fraley places fifth in state wrestling

            Tyler Fraley did not flinch in his first trip to Atlantic City. The Colts Neck High School sophomore was not overwhelmed by the vast Boardwalk Hall and finished fifth at the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association wrestling championships at 103 pounds.

      Big night for Colonials at Lombardi dinner
            The members of the Freehold High School football team are beginning to understand how permanent the state championship they won last fall will be in their lives. It is now state tournament time in basketball and soon the focus will be on the start of the baseball season. Yet the Central Jersey Group II state championship that the Colonials won will not go away.

      Devine leads Patriots to sectional title game
            Devine intervention. In the case of the Freehold Township High School boys basketball team, it was the hot hand of Matt Devine that sparked the Patriots (18- 11) to three state tournament wins last week and put them into the March 9 Central Jersey Group IV championship game against No. 1 seed West Windsor-Plainsboro South High School.

      Monmouth golf courses set to open on March 15
            The Monmouth County Park System golf courses will reopen on March 15 (weather permitting) with a special lineup of new promotions for 2009. Anyone who holds a Monmouth County Park System golf ID card (resident or nonresident) will now earn one free round of golf for every 15 paid rounds of golf played at any Monmouth County golf course.

      Panel will examine horse racing industry
            Gov. Jon Corzine has signed an executive order creating the Governor's Commission on the Horse Racing Industry. The commission is to identify, assess and recommend possible funding solutions for horse racing meets after 2010 and propose long-term funding solutions that will promote the future sustained viability of the horse racing industry in New Jersey.
