      'Seussical' comes to Freehold Township High School
            FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP — The Freehold Township High School Drama Club is ready to entertain all those who attend its whimsical production of "Seussical, the Musical" on March 11, 13 and 14. The curtain will rise at the high school, Elton- Adelphia Road, at 7 p.m. on March 11, 13 and 14. A matinee performance is planned for 1 p.m. March 14.

      FRHSD introduces tentative budget
      High school spending plan checks in at $180.1 million
            Administrators in the Freehold Regional High School District have introduced a $180.1 million spending plan for the 2009-10 school year. The budget was introduced during the FRHSD Board of Education meeting on Feb. 23 at the district offices in Englishtown.

            MARLBORO — Representatives of the Marlboro Township Education Association (MTEA) and the Marlboro K-8 School District Board of Education are entering into the fact-finding phase as they attempt to strike a deal on a new contract.

      Four seats contested on FRHSD school bd.
            There will be four seats up for grabs on the Freehold Regional High School District Board Education in the April 21 school election. The terms now held by Joan Leimbach of Howell, Bunny Hammer of Freehold Borough and Patricia Horvath of Manalapan will be on the ballot. Those three seats will each carry a three-year term.

      Colts Neck pupils track travelbugs' adventures
            COLTS NECK — Fourth grade pupils at the Conover Road Elementary School are traveling the world vicariously through four travelbugs that have been released into the wild. This geocaching project is a pilot program developed by teachers Michele Rogers and Nancy Plumfield.

      Local student's poem printed in magazine
            FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP — BreAnne Bank, 14, an eighth grade student at the Barkalow Middle School, is among the young people whose poetry was chosen to be published in the March 2009 issue of Highlights for Children in its "Your Own Pages" section.

      Benefit to aid teacher who is battling cancer
            Dr. James Herzog, a chiropractor in Freehold, will hold a two-day fundraiser on March 21-22 to benefit the Silvestri family. Vincent Silvestri is a Howell High School teacher who was diagnosed with cancer which will require in long-term treatments many days off from work, according to a press release.

            MARLBORO — Marlboro Elementary School Principal Jonathan Shutman and Marlboro Middle School psychologist Kevin Lynn recently earned doctoral degrees from universities recognized by the Council for High Education Accreditation (CHEA) and the United States Department of Education (USDE).

      Howell board votes to close Southard
      Pupils who currently attend the school will be redistricted
            HOWELL — The Howell Board of Education has voted to close the Southard School in the face of a declining K-8 enrollment and budget pressures. The decision to close the elementary school and to assign its pupils to other schools in the township was made at the March 4 meeting of the school board.
