Manalapan High School will host wrestling action

      It is still Jackson Memorial High School's championship to lose. The Jaguars will be shooting for their 12th consecutive team championship at the NJSIAA District 21 wrestling tournament this weekend at Manalapan High School. Jackson Coach Doug Withstandley has another powerhouse squad that has been ranked as high as No. 4 in the state this season.

      In 35 years of coaching, Manalapan EnglishtownM iddle School wrestling coach Herb Arbeitman has nurtured some of the finest wrestlers who have gone on to the local high school ranks; wrestlers like Cary Broad and Steve Rivera, who both went on to win state championships at Manalapan High School, wrestled for Arbeitman at the middle school level.

Racing to return to Wall Township
      After sitting idle through 2008, with the exception of the Turkey Derby race in late November, Wall Township Speedway will come alive again in 2009. The busy schedule will feature professional auto racing and several types of special events, according to a press release.

Rebels' Henri wins CJ bowling crown

      Jessica Henri does not like to look at her bowling score from frame to frame. She wants to keep her focus on her next shot. Yet, even with all of that focus, the Howell High School junior could sense that she was in a zone at the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group IV Bowling Championships held at the Brunswick Zone Carolier Lanes in North Brunswick.

      Freehold High School football coach Mark Ciccotelli will be honored on Feb. 26 as "Coach of the Year" and his team as "Team of the Year" at the 37th annual Vince Lombardi Awards Banquet at the Sheraton Hotel, Eatontown. In 2008, the Colonials were ranked No. 1 in Monmouth County and won the Central Jersey Group III state championship.

HHS cagers earn spot in states
      The Howell High School boys basketball team has earned a spot in the NJSIAA state tournament for the first time since 2000. The Rebels have won eight of their last nine games to get to 11-9 and earn the postseason berth. "That was great after being here for four years," senior Tom Callahan said of Howell's playoff spot.

Freehold Township quartet wins Group IV crown in Toms River

      It keeps getting better for the Freehold Township High School boys 4x400- meter relay team. As the competition gets tougher, the Patriots keep running faster and they keep on winning. The quartet of Abe Hamami, Matt Intile, Bobby Searby and Ryan Spadola kept their 2008-09 record perfect by winning the NJSIAA Group IV state championship on Feb.
