      Freehold AAUW seeks used book donations
            Donations of used books are being accepted for the annual Freehold American Association of University Women used book sale. Adult and children's fiction and nonfiction books are welcome; textbooks are not accepted. Profits from the sale are used by the Freehold AAUW for national and local scholarships and local community projects. Call 732-431-2297.

      Hadassah slates kosher wine tasting
            Bat Shalom Hadassah of Jackson-Howell will again hold its kosher Passover wine and cheese tasting event. It will be held at 7:30 p.m. March 19 at Westlake Mews, South Cooksbridge Road in Jackson. Attendees will have the opportunity to taste a variety of Passover wines and discover that they are no longer limited to a few flavors. Everyone age 21 or older is invited.

      Workshop, lunch for nurses Feb. 25 at BCC
            Brookdale Community College (BCC), Lincroft section of Middletown, will host a workshop/luncheon for nurses during National Eating Disorders Awareness Week. The program by the Eating Disorders Program at Monmouth Psychological Associates, Tinton Falls, will be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 25.

            The Diocese of Trenton, in conjunction with law enforcement agencies throughout the region, will host the 11th annual Celebration of Law Enforcement, or Blue Mass, 10:30 a.m. April 28 at St. Mary of Assumption Cathedral, 151 N. Warren St., Trenton.

      'L.O.L.' comedy show Feb. 28 to benefit 180
            The nonprofit 180 Turning Lives Around, Hazlet, will present a comedy show fundraiser, "L.O.L - Laugh Out Loud," 7 p.m. Feb. 28 at Two River Theater Company, 21 Bridge Ave., Red Bank. Tickets are $30 for the show and hors d'oeuvres, with all proceeds benefiting the programs and services provided by 180.

      Dinner-dance set for mothers & sons
            Howell Recreation will present a Mother and Son Doo Wop Dinner and Dance from 6- 9 p.m. April 3, 17 and 24 at Our House Restaurant, Howell. The cost is $31 per person and reservations are taken only with payment. Reservations are first-come, first-served. The evening will consist of a dinner buffet, music, dancing, and a color photo taken by a professional photographer.

      Kids can enjoy magic & mystery Feb. 21
            Magic and mystery will await families who attend Kateri Environmental Center's presentation of "The Stone of Fire: A Smith Hall Interactive Mystery" on Feb. 21. Kateri Center is part of Collier Youth Services and is located at 160 Conover Road in the Wickatunk section of Marlboro. The event will provide an adventure for children ages 7 and up.

      Auction will help children with cancer
            The Ashley Lauren Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing hope and help to children throughout New Jersey who suffer from cancer through financial, material and emotional support, will be holding its fourth annual bachelor/ bachelorette auction titled, "A Night of New Beginnings," at 7 p.m. Feb. 20 at the Eagle Oaks Golf and Country Club in Farmingdale.

            The environmental committee at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Phalanx Road, Colts Neck, will sponsor a free informational evening on the topic "Liquefied Natural Gas: A Threat to the Jersey Shore?" at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 18. Featured speakers will be Sister Suzanne Golas, CSJP, director of Waterspirit, and David Byer, water policy attorney for Clean Ocean Action.

            The deadline to enter the second annual Rock'n Music Idol competition, hosted by Rock'n Music Academy, Route 35, Middletown, is fast approaching. New Jersey students ages 7-17 may enter in the categories of guitar, bass, drums, keyboard/piano, vocals and vocals with instrument by Feb. 20.

      Freehold school board revises meeting schedule
            FREEHOLD — The Freehold Borough K-8 School District Board of Education has revised its meeting schedule. The March 2 meeting has been canceled and rescheduled for March 9 as a budget workshop meeting. A meeting on March 16 has been added as an open public meeting. The 2009-10 budget will be introduced at the March 16 meeting.

      Reunion slated for vets of USS Coral Sea
            Crewmen who have served aboard the USS Coral Sea CVB/CVA/CV-43 are being sought for a mini-reunion to be held April 25 at Sir John's Restaurant, North Brunswick. Additional information is also available about the USS Coral Sea CVA-43 Association and its yearly reunion, which is held Oct. 8-11 in Washington, D.C.
