Pedestrian struck, killed on Route 9

FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP — Route 9 south was the scene of a fatal accident on Jan. 26 at 6:21 p.m.

Freehold Township police Capt. James Lasky said Toribio Garcia-Jiminez, 40, of Freehold Borough, was killed when he was struck by a car. Garcia-Jiminez was a pedestrian and he was struck on Route 9, just south of Route 524.

The driver of the car that struck Garcia- Jiminez was identified by police as Josephine Jablonski, 57, of Beachwood.

Lasky said that as of Feb. 2 no summonses had been issued to Jablonski and the captain said he did not anticipate that any summonses would be issued.

There was a witness to the accident and police officers took a statement from that person, Christa Sims of Lakewood.

Lasky said Garcia-Jiminez had identification on his person, but nothing that would specifically connect him to this area. The captain said an investigation eventually revealed that Lasky was living on Avenue A in Freehold Borough with a cousin.

The Freehold Township Police Department, the New Jersey Department of Transportation, the Monmouth County Serious Crash Analysis Response Team (SCART), the Freehold First Aid and Emergency Squad, MONOC paramedics and the East Freehold Fire Department responded to the scene of the accident.

Lasky said the crash remains under investigation by SCART and by Freehold Township Police Officer Patrick Fallon.
