Sports Shorts
      Freehold Borough Little League will hold registration for the 2009 season on Friday (7-9 p.m.) and Saturday (9 a.m.-noon) at the American Legion Hall. Eligible players must be residents of Freehold Borough between the ages 5-16 as of April 30. Fees range from $80- $115 depending on the age group. There will also be a $100 refundable service fee collected.

It's the reason Freehold Township's veteran head coach has been one of the most consistent winning coaches in the Shore. It's also the reason his Patriots are among the top 10 teams in the Shore again with a 7-3 overall record as the season reaches the halfway point.

Colonials, Pats led field hockey teams

      The two Freeholds, Borough and Township, were field hockey in 2008. Both were ranked among the 10 best in the Shore Conference. Jerry Acevedo's Colonials (16-4) followed up their state sectional championship season of 2007 with another successful season proving that they are one of the conference's most consistent programs.
