      Rebels are the team everyone is watching
      Wrestling season starts this weekend
            The 2008-09 high school wrestling season, which begins this weekend has a tough act to follow. Led by Howell's state championship Joey Langel (112), the 2007-08 season was a memorable one. Langel snapped a 43-year state championship drought at Howell when he decisioned Ocean Township's Mike Berardesco, 6-2, in the 112 final in Atlantic City.

      Boro girls added to their legacy
            Freehold Borough's magnificent seniors added the final chapter to their unsurpassed soccer careers in 2008. Although it didn't end as Shannon Mayrose, Alexandra Eagle, Ashley Lewis, Alexa Rozzi, Jackie Scalgione and Angeles Pantoja would have liked, with a third straight state title, the Colonials left it all on the field as could be expected.

            Galaxy Gymnastics, Howell, competed in the Level 7 State Sectional Meet held in Wanamassa at Ace Gymnastics. In the 13-year-old age group, Bayleigh Fobes was second in the all-around (36.675). She was second on the uneven bars, fifth on the balance beam, sixth on the floor exercise and seventh on the vault. Teammate Alyssa Leitner was 10th on the floor exercise.

            From Sandy Hook to Cape May, the 2008 fishing season is winding down with a healthy fall run of striped bass and hungry bluefish. Anglers enjoyed bass in early spring and then again in the fall. Big blues kept every angler sharp, confident and on their feet.

      Third year in row District boys soccer team wins SCT
            The Freehold Regional District continued its dominance of boys soccer in the Shore Conference in 2008. This year, it was Freehold Township's turn to rule the roost. Todd Briggs' Patriots won their first division title in 20 years when they captured the A North Division after a season-long battle with Marlboro.
