Robert John Smith, 13, of Freehold Township, died Nov. 11, 2008, at home after a long battle with Sanfilippo syndrome. His father, Robert "Skinny" Smith, died in July 2008. Mrs. Abate was a waitress at Van's Freehold Inn, Federici's, Freehold, and Spring Lake Golf and Country Club.
