      Beat Long Branch in second half; CN, FT also win
            There is something uniquely Americana about Freehold Borough football and its continuity. Fathers come out to see their sons play. Former players return to check out the latest Colonial edition. It's true community. Saturday, there was Walt Freeman chatting with Jack Mayes prior to the game. They were on Freehold Borough's championship teams of the early 1950's.

      Forys, Higginson shine at NCAA Pre-Nationals
            Former Colts Neck High School standouts Craig Forys and Ashley Higginson came up with solid races for their respective colleges Saturday at the Pre-Nationals. The cross-country meet was held on the same course that will hold the NCAA National Championships next month (Nov. 24), the LaVern Gibson Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Ind.

      Historic season for BCC men's soccer
      First to complete unbeaten season; win GSAC
            Whatever obstacle the Brookdale Community College men's soccer team faced this fall, they were able to overcome it. Whether it was playing without players due to injuries, scoring an own goal, or in one contest, missing two penalty kicks. Whatever the challenge, the Jersey Blues found a way to survive and produce the school's first unbeaten soccer season.

            Dan Reese and Derek Sinisky quickly realized that they needed each other. One of the fist things that Sinisky did when he was named the new head football coach at Marlboro High School was to reach out to Marlboro Pop Warner to build a relationship with them.

      Lippi, Montefinese led BCC women
            Camden Community College pulled the curtain down on Brookdale's women's soccer season on Sunday. Camden's 1- 0 win in the Region XIX tournament semifinal concluded another winning campaign for coach Frank Lawrence's women. The Jersey Blues finished the season at 13-4-1.

            Brad Emmons, who plays tight end for the Delaware Valley College football team, caught a touchdown pass in the club's 34- 19 victory over King's College last weekend. The senior hauled in a four-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Mike Isgro in the Aggies' Middle Atlantic Conference opener.

      Manalapan wins Division crown
            Manalapan is back on top of Shore Conference A North Division girls soccer. The Braves won four games last week, including the critical match with then division leading Freehold Township, to snatch the championship away from the Patriots, who had led the division all season, in the final of the season.

      Patriots clinch A North soccer
      First title in 20 years
            It took 20 years, but at long last Freehold Township boys soccer rules the Shore Conference A North Division. Last week, it took a thrilling 2-1 win against Christian Brothers Academy on Thursday to put them in control of their destiny and then a pulsating 1-0 win at Middletown South to bring the Patriots the long-awaited division title.

      Rough weather makes it tough for boats to get out

            With gale force winds and a sharp drop in temperature, most head boats canceled offshore trips for tuna. The Gambler and Sea Devil canceled weekend trips due to weather. Winds topped 30 knots over the weekend and seas in the Hudson Canyon reached 14 feet in height.
