      FB, CN, Howell each score football victories
            Freehold Borough, Colts Neck and Howell high schools were the victors on the gridiron over the weekend. Mark Ciccotelli's Colonials maintain their winning ways in Jackson, beating Jackson Liberty, 47-25, to improve to 4-0. Colts Neck worked overtime to send previously undefeated Middletown North down to its first loss of the season, 20-17.

      Unseeded Dassa wins county title
      Captures first singles
            Michelle Dassa felt slighted when the seedings for first singles at the Monmouth County Tournament came out. The Marlboro High School sophomore was not seeded. So, all she did was take it out on the competition by capturing the first singles title on Oct. 5 at Kendall Park in Middletown.

            With his season geared for November championship races, Robby Andrews used Saturday's Manhattan Invitational as a test. Facing some of the best runners in the Northeast on one of the most famous cross country courses in the country, Van Cortland Park (VCP), the Bronx, NYC, the Manalapan senior had the opportunity to evaluate his progress this season.

            Marlboro has been a second-half of-theseason team under Dave Santos. Friday's big 2-1 win over defending state champion Manalapan would only seem to confirm that. The leaves are turning and the Mustangs are hitting their stride.

            There is no margin for error for the Colt Neck girls soccer team in their quest for the state playoffs. "It's going to be a fight right to the end to qualify for the states," said coach Dave Irvine. "We're inexperienced with a handful of juniors who are getting their first taste of varsity experience.

      Girls clinch tie for seventh straight division crown
            On paper, the 33-straight dual meet winning streak of the Colts Neck girls cross country team was in serious jeopardy. At the Freehold Regional District Championships, Howell had scored a decisive victory over the Cougars on their own home course, Bucks Mill Park.
