      Andrews, Braves repeat champions
      CN's Morris first District x-country championships
            There's a reason that the Manalapan Braves were logging 60 miles a week during the summer. It was to make them stronger for the second half of races. Manalapan's harriers demonstrated that strength Thursday in winning the Freehold Regional District Championship for the fourth consecutive year.

      Rebels, Pats in key A North gym meet
            Freehold Township represents the last major hurdle for the Howell High School gymnastics team to clear during the dual-meet season. The two teams will meet Friday at Freehold Township (4:30 p.m.) The Rebels (3-0) are vaulting toward a third consecutive Shore Conference A North Division crown and the up-and-coming Patriots are their last obstacle to overcome.

      Pats have found right mix
            Mixing veterans with freshmen and sophomores doesn't always work. But sometimes it does as it has with the Freehold Township girls soccer team. "I must say that I thought there might be a problem starting four freshmen," said Patriot head coach Carolyn Sherman. "The seniors are great and we have really good captains.

      Big comeback win for Manalapan
            If any team knows that as long as there is time on the clock you can win, it's the Manalapan High School football team. Saturday against undefeated Ocean Township, trailing 7-6, the Braves' last chance for victory seemed to have been dashed when the Spartans intercepted a pass with just 46 seconds left in the game, halting a Manalapan drive on the Ocean 5-yard line.

            Freehold Township's Ryan Boysen rallied Montclair State University's (MSU) football team to a comeback 14-13 win Saturday at William Paterson. Boysen, a sophomore, tossed a 4-yard touchdown pass to Jeff Papcun (Raritan) with 37 seconds left in the game. Marco Capozzoli then booted his second point after to provide the winning margin.

      Shoreshots basketball team is nationally ranked
            The New Jersey Shoreshots Orange 13U boys basketball team enjoyed tremendous success this year. Consisting of local players, the Shoreshots finished sixth at the USBA (United States Basketball Association) Nationals held in North Myrtle Beach, S.C., in July.
