            Just because Ashton Jackson has graduated doesn't mean the action is gone from the Colts Neck football team. Head coach Mike McArthur has a number of quality players returning as the Cougars, 6-4 last fall, look to get back to the state playoffs.

            Derek Sininsky's top priority upon becoming the newest Marlboro High School football coach was adjusting the program's attitude. "I'm a disciplinarian and I have high expectations," he said upon getting the Marlboro position. "I'm looking to raise the standards.

            Howell High School's gymnastics team has had something special going for it the last two years and the Rebels don't want it to come to an end. With the cornerstones of their back-toback undefeated Shore Conference A North Division championships teams, Austyn Fobes and Brianna Ecklof, returning, the Rebels remain the team to beat.

            Manalapan made a successful transition to new head coach Tom Gallahue last fall. The Braves maintained their winning tradition, going 6-4. But it wasn't enough. "We have to return to the state playoffs," said Gallahue. "The kids have put a big focus on it.

            Art Official joined the greatest standardbreds in the sports history when he won the $392,850 Cane Pace at Freehold Raceway on Labor Day. His driver, Millstone's Ron Pierce, has put his name alongside the greatest drivers in the sport's history.

            Morganville's Erica Weitz got her cross country season at the University of Central Florida (UCF) off on the right foot. The junior was the first UCF harrier to reach the finish line at the Knight Attack Challenge held on UCF's home course in Orlando, Fla. Weitz set a personal best, 19:33.99, in placing sixth. The Knights were second behind UCF.

            When Austyn Fobes joined the Howell High School gymnastics team, it was her first experience being a part of a team, and she liked it. She recalled thinking if college is anything like that, let's start it now. Now is still a year away for the Rebel senior; however, her college choice isn't.
