            Yes, they do belong. After a two-and-one-half-week layoff and some lingering doubts about whether they could play with the big boys, Freehold Township Little League's Junior League (ages 13-14) all-stars removed any doubts Saturday, winning their first-round Eastern Regional Tournament game.

      CJ Tornado win state title, finish third at PONY nationals
            Riding baseball's surest things, pitching and defense, the Central Jersey Tornado 12U softball team finished third at the PONY Nationals. The Tornado won the IAS state championship and the Danger Elite Qualifier in Massachusetts, on its way to the PONY Nationals in Youngstown, Ohio, (PONY stands for Protest Our Nation's Youth).

      Legion All-Star game highlights top talent
      Saturday at BlueClaws stadium, it's Monmouth vs. Ocean
            There's a special bonus for those who will be playing in Saturday's American Legion Monmouth-Ocean County All-Star game. Prior to the 3 p.m. start at the Lakewood BlueClaws stadium, FirstEnergy Park, they will participate in a College Showcase that will be attended by professional scouts and college coaches.

            Marlboro Mustangs Blue, an 8-yearold travel team, won 11 straight games on the way to winning a pair of tournaments recently. Marlboro captured the Monroe and East Brunswick tournaments during the streak. They had to stage a major comeback to keep the streak alive.

            Dennis Novello is like a proud big brother. He helped start the Freehold Township High School boys lacrosse program and is now witnessing firsthand, as a coach, its tremendous growth.             Freehold Township's American Legion regular season didn't catch coach Todd Smith by surprise, but the playoffs certainly did. After putting together a solid 11-5-1 record during the Legion's Monmouth County regular season, Freehold Township qualified for the state playoffs.

      JSSLL reflects growing popularity of lacrosse
            Mike Dowd and Manasquan are no longer going it alone in boys lacrosse. Dowd, head coach of the Manasquan boys lacrosse team, started the Jersey Shore Summer Lacrosse League (JSSLL) in the early 1990s when the Blue Warriors were the only program in the Shore area.
