      Freehold Township H.S. hosting basketball league
            John Sciarappa is taking a more involved approach to his coaching this summer. The Freehold Township High School girls basketball coach had taken a "just let them play" approach to the Freehold Township Recreation's Summer Basketball League held at the high school on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

      Manalapan Babe Ruth team wins state title
      Regional is next for 14-year-olds
            The second time was the charm for the Manalapan Baseball Association's 14-year-old Babe Ruth team. They won both the District and northern New Jersey state championships by turning the tables on the team that had beaten them earlier in both tournaments.

      Manalapan National rallies to win LL title
      Capture 11-year-old District 19 crown
            When his Manalapan National 11- year-old team was one of the four finalists in the District 19 tournament, manager Joe Gugliara had some advice for his club. "I told them no one expected you to be in the Final Four, let's show them who the better team is," he said.

            The Rutgers women's crew program announced the hiring of Heather Putnam as first varsity assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, head coach Max Borghard announced. Putnam coached the Scarlet Knights freshmen and novice squads from 2002-06.

      Freehold Twp. Juniors ride pitching to title
      Win LL District 19 Championship
            There were echoes of Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale. The feats of the dominant Los Angeles Dodgers of the past were replicated by Freehold Township Junior Little League as it won the District 19 championship. The National rode the arms of two pitchers, Michael Correra and Michael Patti, to a perfect 5-0 record.

      Gathering celebrates game many of us played as youngsters
            Pete Dente had his backyard looking like a baseball park. From the foul lines, to the green-monster-like wall in left field to the precise measurements down the lines (75 feet) to center field (95). It was all for a block party, or rather a Wiffle ball tournament.

      Personal seat licenses further alienating the average fan
