      Seminar will focus on avoiding child abduction
            A free seminar on preventing child abduction for parents and children will be held at Tiger Schulman's Mixed Martial Arts Center in Cambridge Square Mall, 280 Route 9, Marlboro, from 11 a.m. to noon July 19. The seminar will focus on basic abduction-prevention skills for children and identifying potentially dangerous situations and knowing how to react.

      Program will address campus security Aug. 13
            The Howell Township Municipal Alliance will conduct a program addressing college campus security at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 13 at the Howell municipal building's main meeting room, 251 Preventorium Road.       Manalapan student receives national honor
            The National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS) has announced that Christian Brothers Academy student Patrick LeCompte of Manalapan has been selected for membership. The announcement was made by NSHSS Founder and Chairman Claes Nobel, a member of the family that established the Nobel Prizes.

      4-H Arts Camp will be held at Camp Nomoco
            The fifth annual 4-H Arts Camp will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Aug. 22-24 at Camp Nomoco in Freehold Township. Campers will have the opportunity to showcase their talents, learn new skills, and make new friends while learning more about the outdoor world around them. 4-H club members and youth new to 4-H are welcome to attend.

            The creators of the book "Artism: Art by Those With Autism!" are seeking new, original artwork to include in the next book in this series titled "Artism Anew." The first book on Artism was the winner of the Global Book Publishing Award.

      Talk on close-air-support in Vietnam July 29
            The New Jersey Vietnam Veterans' Memorial Foundation will host a lecture by military historian and radio talk show host Tom Wisker, "Re-Inventing the Wheel: USAF Close-Air-Support in Vietnam," 1 p.m. July 19. The program will be at the Vietnam Era Educational Center, Holmdel.

            The annual Monmouth Park Charity Ball will be held beginning at 7 p.m. Aug. 9 at Deal Golf and Country Club. Honorees will be Richard W. Hogan, Kenneth Rocky and Chris Ruisi for outstanding commitment to the community. The event will feature a cocktail hour, dinner and dancing to the music by Stephen Berger Orchestra.

            Air Force Lt. Col. Stuart L. Labovitz, the son of Ronald W. and Marion B. Labovitz of Manalapan, has retired from the U.S. Air Force after 23 years of honorable military service. Prior to retiring, Labovitz was chief of the Live/Virtual/Constructive Acquisition Application Division with the Air Force Agency for Modeling and Simulation based in Orlando, Fla.

      BCC open house at Hook field station Aug. 16
            Brookdale Community College's (BCC) Sandy Hook Field Station will hold an open house 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 16. Attendees may register for a fall field- station class, and be able to enter into a drawing to win a free fall term three-credit hour class at the field station. Courses offered include geology, oceanography and environmental science.
