The Monmouth County All-Star baseball team, made up of the top seniors in the county, were locked in a scoreless tie with their Ocean County counterparts in the Shore Conference Coaches All-Star games played at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood.

Higginson on U.S. team for Jr. World meet

      The IAAF World Junior Track and Field Championship will be more than a competition to Ashley Higginson. It will be a chance for the Princeton University sophomore, who starred at Colts Neck High School, and her family to get in touch with their roots.

      Three teams made it happen on the softball diamond this spring in the Freehold Regional High School District. Manalapan, Freehold Township and Colts Neck each had their own stories, but they had one thing in common: winning seasons.

Colts Neck Cougars lead All-District baseball team
      With 20 wins and a divisional title, Colts Neck's baseball team did just what it wanted to in 2008. The Cougars answered anyone who doubted that they were an established winning program by picking up where they left off in '07 when Mike Yorke's club won the Shore Conference A North Division title and Shore Conference Tournament.

Andrews, Mularz, Goode top All-District track
      On all fronts, the boys track and field season was memorable. Individually, Manalapan's Robby Andrewswas the dominant player. He was second in the one-mile run at the Penn Relays. He won the 1,600 at the State Group IV championships and then broke the school record in the 1,600-meter run in finishing second at the NJSIAA Meet of Champions (4:11.65).

Arpi, Weitz win FARC Summer Series opener
      The Freehold Area Running Club's 21st Annual Summer Race Series got under way last Wednesday night with Manuel Arpi picking up the first win of 2008. Erica Weitz finished sixth overall and won the women's race. Arpi toured the 5K course within Monmouth Battlefield State Park in Manalapan in 18:33.

      Julian Rosenstein, 11, of Marlboro, won the recent Boy's 14 Singles at the United States Tennis Association (USTA) tournament, eastern-southern N.Y. section. The tournament was held at Copper Springs Beach Tennis Club in Gillette. Rosenstein, who attends Marlboro MemorialMiddle School, dropped only one set in his five matches en route to his victory.
