      Howell golfers have two reasons to cheer
      Rebels won two championships in '08
            As the golf season grinded on, Howell High School never lost its edge. "The kids just kept playing," said coach Tim Hogan. "From the get-go the kids had goals. They were zoned in." On Thursday, Howell beat Marlboro, 169-177 to win the Shore Conference A North Division title for the second time in four years.

      Jackson, DeSclafani led CN to CJ final
            Anthony DeSclafani experienced the roller-coaster ride that is baseball. Seemingly coasting to a victory over top-seeded Jackson in the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group IV semifinals, DeSclafani was touched for a three-run home run by Greg Janofsky in the bottom of the seventh that lifted the lifeless Jaguars to a 4-4 tie.

      Linnell wins twice, third title for Parker; Andrews, Mularz win
            Allison Linnell, Dan Mularz and Robby Andrews led a parade of area athletes who won NJSIAA Central Jersey Group IV championships. The state sectional meet for Groups I and IV was held over two days (May 23 and 24) at Hillsborough High School.

      Two-out thunder has Braves in MCT final
      Manalapan beats CBA in semis
            Thanks to some two-out thunder, the ManalapanHigh School baseball team is playing for a championship. The Braves put together a five-run rally in the top of the fifth in Lincroft, allwith two outs, to beat Christian BrothersAcademy, 5- 4, on May 28 to advance to the Monmouth County Tournament (MCT) championship game.

            Marlboro's Kali Zamkoff, 12, won the Region VII Level 8 Junior B allaround title with a score of 37.8. The meet was held in Charleston, W.Va. Competing against more than 300 other athletes, Zamkoff also won region championships on the vault and balance beam.

      Frick wins NCAA East Region high jump championship
            Princeton University sophomore Justin Frick won the NCAA East Regional men's high jump on Saturday. The victory sent the former Freehold Borough High School state champion on to the NCAA Division I Track and Field Championships June 11- 14 in Des Moines, Iowa.
