            This is the time of the season that all softball teams have worked for, the playoffs. Only winning teams need apply here as teams seek the ultimate goal, a championship. No one can appreciate themeaning of the postseason playoffsmore than the seniors at Freehold Township.

      Manalapan hot as state playoffs begin
            When the state playoffs begin this week, one team to avoid is the Manalapan Braves. With 11 wins in their last 14 games, Brian Boyce's team has finally put it all together - pitching, defense and hitting - and are one very dangerous team.

      Unachukwu wins 3 titles, Goode wins 2 at SC
            The Ada Unachukwu Express keeps motoring along. The Marlboro marvel won three titles at Saturday's Shore Conference Track and Field Championships at Neptune High School, barely missing out on a fourth. The multitalented sprinter/jumper matched her 100-meter 200-meter-dash wins at the Monmouth County Championships, running 12.52 for the century and 25.09 for the 200.

            TheManalapan Flamethrowers U11 travel baseball team, routed the Little Silver Firebirds, 12-0 onMay 18 to gain its second consecutive victory. Zach Koenig was the winning pitcher - he pitched four scoreless innings, striking out five batters and allowing one hit and no walks.

      Manalapan's Harvey has two no-hitters
            You can never get enough of a good thing. Just ask Ryan Harvey. The Manalapan High School pitcher authored the first no-hitter of his career this spring, and as if that weren't enough, he went out lastweek and threwhis second nohitter of the season. It was 3-0 win over Shore Regional in the quarterfinals of the Monmouth County Tournament (MCT) on May 13.

      Higginson wins Ivy League 5K championship
            Ashley Higginson hasn't missed a beat. The Princeton University freshman, who won national and state championships at Colts Neck High School, has quickly become one of the best distance runners in the Ivy League. She won her first individual league title at the Heptagonal Games (Ivy League) held May 10-11 at Yale University in New Haven, Conn.
