      Boys and Girls Clubs seek donations of cars
            New Jersey Boys and Girls Clubs are accepting donations of cars. The money received from the sale of the cars will be used to help make the clubs a positive place for kids. For information on donating cars, contact (800) 246-0493. No restrictions apply. Cars will be picked up within a few days of the call.

      Manalapan Battleground Prep Orchestra to play
            The Manalapan Battleground Prep Orchestra will perform two spring concerts in May. The first concert will take place on May 14 at 7:15 p.m. at the Monmouth County Library Headquarters, 125 Symmes Drive, Manalapan. The second concert will take place on May 17 at 7:30 p.m. at Hope Lutheran Church, 211 Elton-Adelphia Road, Freehold Township. All are welcome to attend.

            The Monmouth Council, Boy Scouts of America, will hold its 2008 Western Monmouth "Good Scout Award" reception at 5:30 p.m. May 29 at the Battleground Country Club, Manalapan. Anthony J. Ammiano, a member of the Township Committee in Freehold Township, will be recognized for his record of community service, participating citizenship and volunteer work.

      Queens Opera will perform in Manalapan
            The Queens Opera will, once again, perform at the Manalapan Township Municipal Building, 120 Route 522, Manalapan, May 18 at 3 p.m. The show will feature sopranos Chrisina Rivera singing the songs of Spain and Danille Vita singing songs from theAmerican stage, including "West Side Story," "My Fair Lady," and "The King and I." Admission is free but seats are limited.

      Scholarships for women returning to school
            Applications are now being accepted for the $2,000 scholarships given by the FreeholdArea Branch of theAmericanAssociation of University of Women. The Lew Williams and Leila Sulkes scholarships are awarded to women who are at least 25 years of age and returning to college after an interruption in school attendance of at least one year.

            The Manalapan Alliance for the Prevention of Drug and Alcohol Abuse is seeking volunteers to help face paint,wear a costume and/or distribute alcohol- and drug-related information 3-10 p.m. June 14 at Manalapan Day. Students who help will be awarded community service and volunteer hours.

      Manalapan quilter nominated for award
            Linda Hahn of Manalapan has been nominated for 2008 Quilt Teacher of the Year Award from "The Professional Quilter" magazine. She was nominated by her students in recognition of the quality of her teaching and the enthusiasm she generates for quilting. The winner was announced in the spring issue of the magazine.
