      Board's decision overrode zoning ordinance
Our opposition to the proposal for a warehouse office building at Tennent and Amboy roads in Marlboro, diagonally across from our home, was well reported in the March 26 News Transcript ("Office, Warehouse Space Gains Planners' Approval).

Howell council must prune municipal budget
The Howell Township Council is now in the process of reviewing the yearly budget. The one thought the council should consider when examining the budget is that "difficult times require difficult measures." The Howell taxpayer needs the council to scrutinize the budget at greater depth and extract greater efficiencies from each department.

New Jersey requires power vessel boaters to have safety certificate
With the boating season in New Jersey fast approaching, it is important that all operators of power vessels and personal watercraft be made aware that the state of New Jersey requires an approved boat safety certificate for operating on New Jersey waters.

Federal 287(g) program would not be constructive action
I am writing this letter in response to Richard K. Kelsey of Ashburn, Va., who proposed on March 19, 2008 that the federal program, 287(g), be adopted in Freehold Borough ("Freehold Can Move Quietly to Apply for 287(g) Federal Program," News Transcript, Letters to the Editor).

Governor did the right thing … at his own political peril
Jon Corzine is my nominee for a Profile in Courage. The governor has given New Jerseyans the disastrous facts about the state's finances. He has presented his unpopular plans to help turn the picture around. Some politicians are telling us there are much easier solutions because that's what we want to hear and because it will help get them reelected.

Attack on Freehold resident's views was unwarranted
I have lived and worked in Freehold Borough for many years. I believe we must all try to get along no matter the color of our skin. So Lazaro Cardenas' attack on Dave Landry ("Time for Freehold to Embrace New Reality," News Transcript, Letters to the Editor, March 19) was a step in the wrong direction.

Parents remain out of the loop on inhalant abuse
As the headlines concentrate on steroid abuse and prescription drug abuse, let's not forget that inhalant use is a cheap, legal and easy way that young people get high. Inhalant use has become a silent epidemic. Why? Parents are out of the loop. Children discuss it and practice it; adults stay in the dark.

Passenger train through Marlboro sounds like good idea
The letter from David Henry ("Let the People Decide if They Support a Train," News Transcript, March 12) is right on the mark. A train station in Marlboro would be a great benefit to the town. The traffic on Route 9 in the morning is getting worse all the time. Trains going through New Brunswick will do little to help the traffic in our area.
