      Colts Neck captures first Shore Conference crown
            If not for a timely steal by Tiffany De- Tulio, the Colts Neck High School Cougars may not have been in Saturday's Shore Conference Tournament girls basketball final in the first place.

      Perfect race brings Andrews state crown
      Manalapan High School junior wins 800-meter title in time of 1:54.85
            Robby Andrews completed his extraordinary indoor season with the only title that has eluded the Manalapan High School standout: a New Jersey Meet of Champions crown. On Saturday at the NJSIAA Meet of Champions at the Bennett Indoor Complex in Toms River, Andrews, who is a junior, blasted the field over the final 200 meters to win the 800-meter crown in 1:54.

      Monsignor Donovan edges Colts Neck in semifinals, 55-54
            It was a helpless feeling for the Colts Neck boys basketball team. WhenMonsignorDonovan's Tom ICarter launched a desperation heave from 30 feet away, the Cougars could only watch as the buzzer sounded with the ball in mid-flight.

      Best is yet to come for young Cougars
            The Colts Neck High School girls basketball team, led by its brilliant backcourt of sophomores Brooke Hampton and Lauren Clarke, won its first Shore Conference Tournament (SCT) championship on Feb. 23. Following the game, Hampton delivered the bad news for the rest of the Shore Conference when she said, "I feel like we can win two more.

      Howell bowling was a double success
            Howell High School's bowling teams were a devastating one-two knockout punch in 2007-08. Both the girls and boys teams were outstanding at the same time and brought home a truckload of championships, including the NJSIAA Central Jersey state sectional championships for the first time.

      Sports Shorts
            Freehold Pop Warner will be holding open registration March 7, 6-9 p.m., and March 8 and March 15 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Michael J. Tighe Park Activity Center. Freehold Pop Warner is open to Freehold Township and Freehold Borough residents age 5-6 for flag football and cheer, and age 7-15 for tackle football and cheer as of July 31.
