      Colts Neck, Freehold girls are top seeds in CJ
      Cougars, Colonials point toward success in state tournament
            ColtsNeck and Freehold Borough high schools are theNo. 1 seeds in their respective girls basketball state sectional groups. The NJSIAA state tournament will tip off next week with Coach John Truhan's Cougars seeded No. 1 in Central Jersey Group IV and Coach Jen Brzucki's Colonials seeded No. 1 in Central Jersey Group III.

      Rebels fall to Brick Memorial in CJ mat semifinal
            Howell won the match of the night, but it was BrickMemorial that advanced to the Central Jersey Group IV wrestling tournament final. In an anticipated showdown of reigning state place winners at 135, Howell's Cody Fobes summoned all of his willpower to beat Brick Memorial's Karon Reid, 2-1, on a takedown in the final second.

      Howell-Jackson duel highlights District 21
      Wrestling tourney this weekend, Jackson seeks 11th straight title
            When Howell defeated Jackson Memorial, 35-27, in the semifinals of the Shore Conference Tournament, it sent a serious signal that the 2008 NJSIAA District 21 Wrestling Tournament won't be business as usual. Manalapan is again hosting the District 21 championships on Friday and Saturday.

      Shore Conference girls hoops final four is set
      St. John Vianney & RBC, Rumson & Colts Neck will square off
            And then there was one. While three local high school basketball teams entered the Shore Conference Tournament quarterfinals on Sunday, only one emerged victorious and advanced to this week's semifinal round. The St. John Vianney High School girls basketball team is the top seed in the tourney and the Lancers looked every bit like the teamto beat on Sunday in defeatingNo.

            Colts Neck High School varsity baseball coach Mike Yorke and his Cougar baseball team will be conducting a Little League Spring Training clinics on Saturday and March 1 from 12:30-2:30 p.m. in the Colts Neck High School gymnasiums. Cost is $30 per session or $50 for both. The clinics are for players ages 8-12.

      Andrews, Linnell win track Group state titles
            Allison Linnell didn't make up her mind until 40 minutes before the girl's 1,600-meter race whether she was going to run it or not. The Colts Neck distance runner opted to run the longer 3,200 later than the 1,600 at Saturday's NJSIAA State Group IV Championships held in the Bennett Indoor Facility in Toms River.
