      Cougars are on a roll, move into A North tie
      Colts Neck High School girls squad ranked No. 10 in New Jersey
            There may be no stopping the Colts Neck Cougars now. With three big wins within the last week, John Truhan's Cougars have taken their game to another level. At the Jan. 20 Battle of the Boardwalk in Asbury Park's Convention Hall, the Cougars scored the final 10 points of the game in defeating New York's Bishop Kearny, 47-39.

      Fish On
      Area fishing gets hot during coldest time of year
            The action this week has been red hot. The Garden State is producing some of the best winter fishing in years. With water temperatures staying steady offshore, party boats are filling coolers with a mixed bounty of fish. The Jamaica II from Brielle did just that. Capt. Steve and Capt. Ryan fished another solid week on their 12-hour offshore wreck trips.

      Cougars' girls first in county track again
      Linnell, Unachukwu win for Colts Neck
            The Monmouth County Indoor Track and Field Championships were golden for Freehold District athletes. Manalapan's Robby Andrews was a double-winner on the boys'side,whileColts Neck's Allison Linnell and Marlboro's Ada Unachukwu won two events in the girls meet at the championships held in the Bennett Indoor Complex in Toms River.

      Patriots seize control of A North hoop race
      Wins over CBA and Middletown South have FTHS in first
            The little things are adding up to big wins for the Freehold Township boys basketball team. For the second game, senior forward Steve Ballester bailed the Patriots out, and as a result following their 53-52 over Middletown South in overtime, they are in firm grasp of the Shore Conference A North Division.

      Rebels capture eighth straight division title
            The Freehold Regional High School District Bowling Championships mirrored the Shore Conference division season. Howell's girls were in a class of their own while the Freehold Township and Howell boys were evenly matched, with the Patriots getting the edge this time.

            John Sciarappa likes flying under the radar with his Freehold Township High School girls basketball team. The Patriots have been one of the better teams in the Shore Conference and now that they have landed in the state tournament, it may be hard to remain hidden.

      Records fall at Rebel Indoor Shot Put Series
            Shannon Watt of Jackson Memorial and Old Bridge's JorgeMerino broke their own class record at the 2008 Rebel Indoor Shot Put Series on Jan. 18. The second of four meets this winter at Howell High School sawWatt top the Junior Girls Class mark of 41-6 ½ that she had set in the first meet of the year. Watt followed that with her 43-1 at the Jan. 18 meet.
