      Reduction in public-sector costs should start with school districts
            State Senate President Richard Codey (D-Essex) has said the Gov. Jon Corzine "monetization" plan must be approved as there is no other plan available and that he, personally, has no ideas as to how to improve the state's financial picture. Codey needs to try a little harder.

      Current property-tax system favors the wealthy
            In a recent conversation with a New Jersey senator, one reason given as to why eliminating the property tax and replacing it with an income tax cannot be done is that it could be construed or actually become class warfare. The concern is that the so-called rich would be unfairly targeted to pay more taxes than their fair share for no other reason than that they are rich.
